Tier two supplier of sheet and specialty vinyl

Industry

The end user of the vinyl is the automotive industry where it is used in passenger car and truck non-seat surfacing, door panels, dashboards, and as security screening to cover rear cargo storage compartments.

Problem/Challenge

The customer was not pleased with the vinyl he was supplying to his automotive customers. The coating provided by his former supplier was of inconsistent quality, would not always hold the specified levels of durability, gloss and scuff resistance.

Solution

APV chemists started with a plain sheet of paper; they captured all the desired qualities that the vinyl manufacturer had hoped to achieve, then began formulating a solution. Shortly thereafter testing began. .

Results

Soon after formulation and testing, the vinyl manufacturer had an APV-developed single-coat solution that exceeded expectations. Through careful pre-development listening, APV chemists were able to meet all the product specifications including resistance to UV rays, scratches and scuffs.

Timing

Not surprisingly, the development of the new engineered coating was achieved in time for the manufacturer to meet deadlines for deliveries for the automotive and truck manufacturers’ new models.

"‘The difference between APV’s coating solution and our previous vendor’s was like night and day. We can count on the folks at APV to deliver the goods, and frankly, our vinyl products have never looked better…these guys make our products look great!’
