Problem/Challenge

The manufacturer of vinyl boat coverings had been trying unsuccessfully for some time to develop a coating that would address several issues important to boat owners: excessive heat, and loss of the cover’s shape in rising temperatures.

Solution

APV chemists devised a highly-reflective, one-coat solution that provided the manufacturer with a ‘cooler to the touch’ boat cover that held its shape during the warm months of high cover usage.

Results

The boat cover manufacturer is now using the APV solution on other vinyl covered/treated accessories sold into the boat and specialty watercraft industry. An unexpected benefit of the APV engineered coating is that it prolongs the life of all treated surfaces.

Timing

APV was able to develop the formulation and produce the product in quantities quickly enough not to miss the heavy spring and summer retail selling season.
