Silkscreen Inks are commonly used in the graphics industry in a myriad of ways, ranging from company logos to intricate patterns. They are applied by passing the ink through a fine screen with a composite squeegee, followed by a cure time. The curing process can be by air-dry method; however, a source of heat is typically applied momentarily to these inks in order to speed up the process. A full range of silkscreen mesh sizes are used to transfer the ink to any number of substrates for each graphic or logo.
In the past, these inks were formulated as a thick, paste-like product with a high concentration of pigment solids, binder, and solvents. More recently, there has been a growing number of requests for eliminating the solvent content of these products, due to the worldwide concern regarding VOCs.
APV has met this challenge head-on, and now offers its Silkscreen Inks in both water-based and solvent-based formulations. They can be adjusted for viscosity, substrate, and application requirements, and are available in a wide range of custom colors.
