APV's Water-based Under-tread cement, which is applied to the underside of extruded tread, is an excellent alternative for our solvent-based version. One of the biggest advantages with this cement is that much less product is used during the production process versus its solvent-based cousin.
The cement is applied using a bare, polished stainless steel gravure roller that has score lines etched into its surface, either as parallel ribs or cross-hatched. Such rollers pick up much less cement than a fabric one, a critical requirement when applying the product. Once dried, the cement will not re-solvate in a water bath. The cement tank/reservoir should also be made of stainless steel, with stainless steel welds. (The molecules in carbon steel cause natural latex to coagulate). The cement's pH level should be checked regularly and topped off as necessary, using our L-400 solution to maintain a pH of around 10.
This cement can also be applied using a fan-like, finely atomized spray through an air/fluid spray system to evenly coat the under-tread. Our L-400, pH-balanced cleaning solution must be used to clean spray equipment before and after use.
