Suggested Procedure: 1. Mix powder and binder to achieve uniform consistency.
2. Dip part into M-1 or M-10 slurry.
3. Allow to air dry for ~ 1/2 to 1 hour.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
5. Dip part into M-7, M-13 or M-13A.
6. Allow to air dry for ~ 1/2 to 1 hour.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6.
Note: A second coat of M-13 or M-13A may not be necessary. Results will best determine the need.
(1) When mixing a B-4 maskant slurry, the addition of 2 drops of water to the formulas listed above for 54 gms of B-4 binder, may be necessary. It will increase the viscosity of the slurry, while also minimizing "dripping" and "slumping" of the slurry when applying to part.
(2) B-4 binder only requires air drying. When using water based binders, B-100 or B-200, dry 10 minutes between dips at 250-300° F. Final bake after all dips applied 30-45 minutes at 250-300° F. It is very important that the maskant is completely dry before coating thermal processing.
(3) During application of M-7, it is imperative that the M-7 or M-13/13A do not go beyond the M-1 layer previously applied. The M-7/M-13/13A layer should be ~ 1/4 inch below the M-1.
