Dry Powder Low Temperature Coating Masking Materials
M-8 Maskant
M-8 masking powder is designed to protect selected areas of nickel base superalloy parts such as roots of blades during aluminum diffusion coating. Its function is to act as a "getter" for aluminum providing a protective envelope over the selected area. After processing, the hardened M-8 can be easily removed with a wooden, plastic, or rubber implement. M-8 Green is available where color is required by the user.
Note: M-8 is primarily used with low-temperature coating processes below 1500° F like PWA 73.
Binders and Diluents are:
B-4 Binder
A highly-effective and unique mixture containing organic binders and a nonexplosive, non-flammable solvent which completely volatilizes during the diffusion coating cycle. There is no contamination of the pack nor coating nugget formation during this volatilization, and oven-drying is not required.
B-100 Binder
Water-based binder system, oven drying is required.
B-200 Binder
Higher viscosity water-based binder, oven drying is required.
D-4 Diluent
The diluent is used as needed to maintain the viscosity of maskant slurries. It is an organic mixture used to replace room-temperature, volatilized components of masking slurry.
